The Medical Aid Committee supports the emergency rehabilitation of essential structures and homes following bombing or requiring renovation work. We also supply construction equipment.

The Zakarpattia Medical Aid Committee has also extended an orphanage for disabled children thanks to Swiss and German funding, a project costing over €300,000.

Our project relies mainly on donations from businesses. Donations are 60% tax deductible. The value of donations in kind of building materials distributed by our Ukrainian partner since March 2022 exceeds €2 million.

However, we also need funds to purchase construction equipment.

Results

The Medical Aid Committee distributed more than 250 tonnes of building materials, hardware and tools. Four pieces of construction equipment were donated: two backhoe loaders, one Bobcat loader and one drill for laying water pipes.

All of the building materials and construction machinery sent represents the equivalent of more than 20 semi-trailers.

Why this project

Every day, Russian drones and missiles indiscriminately strike civilians. It is essential to provide volunteer groups with materials to help rebuild damaged homes. Hundreds of health facilities have also been targeted.

Due to population displacement, temporary accommodation centres need to be rehabilitated and set up. It is essential to help people live with dignity and to ensure that essential facilities continue to provide services to the population.

Project beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the projects are hospitals, orphanages, shelters for displaced persons, air-raid shelters and civilians whose homes have been damaged.

We work in particular with the Bo Bozemo and Iskra Dobra associations, and in the regions of Chernihiv, Zaporizhia, Sumy and Transcarpathia.

How we are implementing this project

We have a logistics base in Uzhgorod, in western Ukraine. After assessing needs, the equipment is then delivered to the end beneficiaries.

We are partners with Nova Posta, which transports part of the aid received free of charge. The Medical Aid Committee operates throughout Ukraine, based on the needs identified by our network of trusted partner associations and local authorities across the country. In some regions, the Medical Aid Committee has its own representatives.

We support several volunteer associations that help residents rebuild their homes.

The Medical Aid Committee is one of the recognised partners of the United Nations inter-agency system for emergency response to attacks and for the winter humanitarian response programme.
